Bridging Generations: How Technology Empowers All Ages to Connect and Thrive

technology for seniors

If you’re of a certain age, you can likely remember a time when the internet as we now know it didn’t even exist. We used books, newspapers, and the television as our main source of information gathering. However, as the times have changed the internet, Google, and smart technology has simplified our lives in many ways.

A recent article from the Wall Street Journal claims that “Googling is for Old People” however this just isn’t the case. According to SEM Rush there are approximately 5.9 million searches per minute on Google, accounting for 91.54% of the global search engine market. Search Engine Journal states that “while Gen Z (12 to 27 year olds) increasingly turns to social media platforms for information searches, Google remains the primary starting point for a significant portion of this age group.” So, what does this all mean?

Yes, search trends are changing as new AI evolves, social media platforms are constantly transforming, and the way individuals access information varies. However, as a recent article from WRAL explained, “the real digital divide isn’t age-based – it’s access-based and design-based”. One of the real problems is that developers are creating new platforms with only a younger demographic in mind.
